| OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS 1. Does the Ridgeback Require a lot of Exercise ? Older Ridgebacks can be lazy and can become overweight quite easily. As with humans, daily walks are very beneficial to their well being. I also find with my young dogs, if they don't get an hour or two out in the yard or a good long walk, they can get quite rammy in the house. The fresh air really takes the "edge" off . 2. Are Ridgebacks Good With Children? They are very good with children if raised with them. Children have a whole different manner of conducting themselves. (I KNOW...I HAVE 2 LITTLE BOYS !! ) Their movements are very fast, they are loud and boisterous and tend to carry various toys and treasures wherever they go. As a result, an older Ridgeback who has not been exposed to children, can be wary of them. Most of the time they will merely walk away from them, but if you do not have children, it is a good idea for you to find some and get your dog used to them. Never let ANY dog alone with a child. 3. Are Ridgebacks Destructive? Young Ridgebacks can be very destructive. I recommend crate training for all puppies. Crate training helps with housebreaking and supplies a safe environment for the pup to be in while you are away. There is nothing more damaging to your relationship with your pup than to come home to a destroyed couch, chair, rug, shoes, pillows, etc!! 4.What Sorts of Activities can I do with My Ridgeback? - Ridgebacks are such versatile creatures. They lurecourse and excel in the agility ring. Quite a few have performed superbly in the Obedience Ring and they herd and track quite well. Ridgebacks have earned a lot of respect in the show ring, winning groups quite regularly these days. The Ridgeback won the Hound Group at Westminster last year!
